Wicked explores the life of the witches of Oz: Glinda and Elphaba. Wicked’s music and lyrics are written by Stephen Schwartz and are based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The characters are based on the 1900’s classic novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum. The story revolved around the two witches of Oz, and the plot begins once Dorothy Gale comes to Oz from Kansas. The two friends struggle with their relationship due to having very different personalities, opposing viewpoints and fighting over the same love interest.
This will be a special performance because Wicked premiered on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre in 2003, and they will be returning for another grand show. Wicked’s original Broadway production received three Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk awards, with the original cast album receiving a Grammy. In 2019, it surpassed Les Miserables and became Broadway’s fifth-longest running show. A typical Wicked performance is expected to last somewhere between 2 hours and 30 minutes and it will be worth your time. If you’re a theatergoer who is into musicals, this is a must-attend event.
